What a Day Can Bring!

I awoke yesterday to the beautiful sunshine glistening off the icy snow.  Little did I know that God had a huge plan waiting for my family.  I was thinking about my son, Peter who is in Latvia waiting for his forever family to come and bring him home.  He had been on my mind all morning when the phone rang.  It was our social worker calling not to relay information regarding Peter, but rather to share a story that would not only break my heart, but also change all of my plans.  She began telling me this story of this precious child who had been promised adoption by another family and now two weeks before his sixteenth birthday they were backing out of the plan.  In Latvia, this means that the child will no longer be able to stay in the orphanage.  Davids would be without any hope of a family and the security and shelter from his caretakers and home. He would be homeless....and he knew it.  He had become so worried and anxious over what was to come that he had been moved to the hospital.   My heart was breaking as I listenend to this story and I could feel the pain that this child must be experiencing.  I knew that my husband and I were capable of adopting Davids as well as Peter because all of our documents were ready and we had acquired immigration approval.  The only problem was financing.  I asked if I could have some time to pray and discuss with my husband this child's story.  She of course said for our family to go and to pray.  After great discussion and prayer, we walked out in faith and agreed that we were the family for Davids.
I called Kelly back and gave her the news and within less than an hour donations began to be given for Davids.  My heart is overwhelmed with joy!  I can feel the presence of my precious Savior.  I can hear His whisper of love!  He is mighty and powerful and omnipotent.  I cannot undertand why He would find me worthy.....I just know that I must serve him!  I cannot faint or grow weary......I must finish this race.  I am thankful that my three children can see the power of His work and to know that He is in control.  I never dreamed that I would be called to international adoption. It was through a wonderful organization called New Horizons for Children that our family began this journey last summer when we met an amazing young boy named Peter.  It is only God's amazing touch that we would now also have a son named David.  I guess Peter and David have always been chosen!

Love,
Penny

  2. I am one of many people who have been following Davids story, and I am SO thrilled that you have chosen to start a blog so we can continue to follow his homecoming!! He is a beautiful boy, his story and pictures deeply touched my heart. He reminds me so much of my 11 year old son. I was so grateful to be given the opportunity to donate and help bring Davids home to your family!! I am continuing to pray for him, and now for your whole family as you go on this fantastic journey. What an amazing thing, that he will also have a "brother" from his home country! It sounds perfect. God bless you and your family!

  4. Penny, your family is an answer to SO SO many prayers! We, too, are adopting a child who is ready to age out (Philippines). We have been inspired by the outpouring toward Davids and spurred on to pray for him several times a day. I hope you'll keep your blog updated and let us follow this amazing story. Thank YOU and YOUR FAMILY for being open to the blessing of older child adoption!
    For His Fame,

  8. Like so many others, our family has been crying out to our Father for Davids. Our hearts ached so much for him! When we found out that a family came forward to adopt him, all I could do was weep and thank God for hearing the prayers of so many. We are so happy for Davids and Peters (and for you), and are looking forward to following your blog. We will continue to pray for these boys. Surely God has a special plan for their lives! Blessings to you as you complete the adoption process and bring YOUR SONS HOME!

  12. I am one of the families who has been following Davids story. We have shared it all through our Guatemalan adoption boards and FB. I am so glad you have this blog. Davids captured my heart. My 9 year old and him have so much in common I was wishing I had paperwork ready to go. My son donated his $5.00 from the tooth fairy to my donation for Davids. I am so glad you have been chosen as Davids forever family. We are looking forward to following his, Peters, and your journey.

  13. I have been praying for Davids these past few days and was recently given the link to your blog to share the amazing news that God has provided. Then I was just shocked to see that you are the sweet family who is adopting Peter!! We are friends of the family who hosted him last Christmas (haven't been given permission to use their name). We played with Peter quite and bit during his time here. What an amazing kid! I am so pleased with how God knits us all together and answers our prayers so sweetly, so personally!
I will continue to pray for your family!

  15. I followed the host family's blog over the summer when Davids was in the US and I completely fell in love with him! He just seemed like such an awesome young man. We so wanted to adopt him, but were unable to for numerous reasons. God bless you for taking him and Peters into your family and your hearts!

  18. God is so good! Davids' story touched my heart in such a strong way & I cried tears of joy when I read that an earthly family had stepped forward. God had it worked out all along for Davids' best & for your family's best--I've found He's tricky like that! God bless you as you continue your journey to become one big family!
